Mali Uromastyx

Mali uromastyx is a genus of African and Asian agamid lizards, the member species of which are commonly called uromastyces, spiny-tailed lizards, mastigures, or dabb lizards. The species are primarily herbivorous, but occasionally eat insects and other small animals, especially young lizards.

Mali Uromastyx Characteristics

The lizard species size ranges from 25 cm to 91 cm or more. The hatchlings or neonates are usually no more than 7-10 cm in length. These lizards are able to change colors according to the temperature like many other reptiles. During the cool weather, they appear dull and dark but the color becomes lighter in warm weather, especially during basking, the darker pigmentation allows their skin to absorb sunlight more effectively. They have the spiked, muscular and heavy tail that can be swung at an attacker with great velocity.
